LMC has 10 trained school cookery demonstrators who can deliver messages about the nutritional importance of Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured (NIFQA) beef and lamb, food safety, food hygiene, quality assurance, provenance, and cooking methods.  The demonstration is delivered to suit your timetable and will support the learning process of your class

School Cookery Demonstrations for NI Primary Schools

School cookery demonstrations are fully booked for this academic year 2023/24

The Livestock and Meat Commission for Northern Ireland are delighted to confirm the expansion of its educations programme and offer 150 free cookery demonstrations to primary schools across Northern Ireland. These cookery demonstrations will be available for Key Stage 2 classes and are structured to cover key drivers within the curriculum such as Health and Wellbeing and Care for the Environment. Our expert team of demonstrators will also educate pupils on the farm to fork journey of Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured Beef and Lamb and explain how our farmers are working hard everyday to produce beef and lamb to the world leading standards that the NIFQAS demands.

Demonstrations will take place within the classroom and will last approximately 40 minutes. The demonstrator will cook one recipe containing NIFQA beef or lamb which pupils will get the opportunity to taste at the end of the demonstration. Demonstrations will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, in order to avoid disappointment complete the electronic booking form below as soon as possible. All confirmed demonstrations must take place between April – June 2024.

For over thirty years, LMC has offered free cookery demonstrations to post primary schools across Northern Ireland.  These cookery demonstrations are designed to show the versatility and convenience of beef and lamb as well as highlighting their importance within a balanced diet.

LMC’s demonstrators can tailor demonstrations to meet the needs of different year groups, abilities, and other requirements. The cookery demonstrations are designed to be fun and informative, with our demonstrators passing on useful nutritional information and cookery tips.

The demonstrator will cook one recipe containing NIFQA beef or lamb which the pupils will get to taste at the end of the demonstration. Each year we carry out over 375 school cookery demonstrations throughout Northern Ireland. You will be notified when booking opens for each academic year. There is high demand for this service; in order to avoid disappointment, complete the electronic booking form as soon as possible after notification. All confirmed demonstrations must take place between 1 September 2023 and 31 March 2024.

When completing the booking form:

  • Ensure all fields are  completed otherwise the form will not send.
  • Demonstrators will only be demonstrating one dish per demonstrations in line with the protocol. They will be in the classroom for the duration of the cookery demonstrations (40 minutes). The demonstration may not use up the entire allocated time slot.
  • Discuss with the demonstrator if you need the session tailored to a certain topic and what information you would like covered.
  • Please inform us when you are booking of any communication barriers and what support is available from the school.
  • If the date of a demonstration has to be changed for a genuine reason please let the LMC demonstrator know as soon as possible.
  • Please advise at the time of booking if any of your pupils have allergies. This is also important prior to the demonstration taking place, especially if you know another teacher will be covering your class.
  • The teacher must remain in the room and engaged in the demonstration throughout the duration.
