About us

Northern Ireland is an important beef and sheepmeat producer and the provision of secondary school cookery demonstrations in Home Economics classes is a key element of LMC’s overall education strategy.

LMC’s dedicated education programme has been in place for almost 25 years, and during that time has been committed to increasing young people’s understanding on the importance of beef and lamb as part of a healthy balanced diet. Throughout the years LMC has championed the importance of the Northern Ireland Beef and Lamb Farm Quality Assurance Scheme  (NIFQA) and its role in the provision of world class beef and lamb. Since the inclusion of the NIFQA in the CCEA Food and Nutrition Curriculum, LMC has further expanded its activities to support three key aims namely, to educate, engage and inform consumers of tomorrow. The Commission now provides a vast array of services to both Primary and Post Primary Schools in Northern Ireland with the objective of improving access to NIFQA beef and lamb for practical cookery lessons, upskilling teachers in red meat handling and supporting the education of young people on the nutritional, environmental and versatility credentials of red meat.

LMC’s education programme is complimented by the host of consumer facing promotional activities that take place throughout the year, all of which is part-funded by our levy payers.  LMC will continue to strive for an education programme that diversifies and grows to support the needs of Food and Nutrition teachers in Northern Ireland in promoting the hugely beneficial attributes of locally produced beef and lamb.
