LMC place spotlight on agri-food careers

PROMOTING the broad spectrum of careers available within the agri-food sector has formed an important part of the Livestock and Meat Commission’s (LMC) education programme this year.

The Commission’s education team visited careers fairs across Northern Ireland. Commenting, Emma Brownlee, LMC Education and Consumer Promotions Manager said, “Through attendance at careers fairs LMC sparked meaningful conversations with students about the opportunities available within the agri-food sector. Many attendees stood at critical junctures in their educational journeys, and we were pleased to provide information on a range of pathways to future employment in the sector.”

Alongside promoting agri-food careers, attending careers fairs enables LMC to showcase the diverse portfolio of work it undertakes on behalf of the beef and sheep sectors.

Emma continued, “Students demonstrated interest in the Commission’s work areas, with many actively asking about our placement opportunity offered to undergraduate students who are required to complete a sandwich placement part-way though their studies. This role is recruited annually, with placement students playing a key role in the delivery of LMC’s education programme and marketing activity.”

Across various careers fairs LMC distributed a range of educational and promotional resources, including the ever-popular Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured beef and lamb recipe books.
