Stir Fried Beef with Vegetables

INGREDIENTS:
  • 225 g (8 oz) rump steak, sliced thinly
  • 1 x 5 ml (1 tsp) soy sauce
  • 1 x 5 ml (1 tsp) five spice powder
  • 1 x 5 ml (1 tsp) oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 2.5 cm (1 inch) ginger, peeled and grated
  • 1 x 5 ml (1 tsp) oil
  • 1 carrot, peeled and sliced into thin strips
  • ½ red pepper, sliced thinly
  • 60g (2 oz) broccoli florets
  • 60g (2 oz) mange tout, sliced thinly
  • ½ medium onion, sliced thinly
  • Alternative to above 5 ingredients = 1 packet Chinese stir fry vegetables
  • 150 ml (¼ pt) water
  • 1 x 15 ml (1tbsp) soy sauce
  • 1 x 5ml (1tsp) chilli sauce
  • 1 x 5ml (1tsp) cornflour

METHOD:

• Place the steak, soy sauce and five spice powder into a bowl and mix well.

• Heat one teaspoonful of oil in a non-stick wok until very hot, stir fry the meat for 2 or 3 minutes until browned, transfer to a plate and keep warm.

• Wipe the wok, heat one teaspoonful of oil and fry the garlic and ginger for 1 minute.

• Add the vegetables and stir fry for 3 to 4 minutes, add the meat.

• Mix the cornflour with water, soy sauce, chilli sauce and stir well.

• Add to the meat and vegetable mixture over high heat, stir well until the sauce thickens, serve hot with egg noodles or steamed rice and prawn crackers.
